Chance to win a $50 JJ Bean gift card: Burnaby Mental Health Survey (2 minutes to complete)
Jan 30, 2024
We are expanding our Peer Navigator Program into Burnaby in early 2024! Complete this two-minute community consultation survey for your chance to win a $50 JJ Bean gift card.
The Peer Navigator Program is designed to help people struggling with mental health and/or substance use issues navigate and access social services such as health and wellness support, legal assistance, and housing. The social services system is complex and very hard to understand, therefore many people who need access to care do not have the appropriate service(s) available to them.
The Peer Navigator Program addresses this systemic problem through pairing program participants with people who have gone through the same system and know how to navigate it. These individuals, called ‘Peer Navigators’, help their participants by walking shoulder-to-shoulder alongside them as they navigate services and take the next steps in their recovery journey.
The purpose of the Peer Navigator Team is to help program participants achieve their self-determined goals, get access to resources, hone their self-advocacy skills, and build their personal autonomy so that they can realize their potential. We do this by:
- Supporting participants in a low barrier, safe setting, structured around the principles of peer support and mental health substance use recovery
- Working collaboratively with our clients using a client-centered approach to overcome systemic barriers
- Empowering our participants to realize their potential
To be eligible to participate in the Peer Navigator Program, participants must meet the following criteria:
- Be at least 17 years of age
- Reside in Burnaby
- Self-identify as having mental health/substance use challenges
- Not currently be receiving services from a formal Community Mental Health Team
You can register for the Peer Navigator Program on our website or you can connect with us by reaching out to the Peer Navigator Program Manager (darren.quinn@cmhavf.ca) or Assistant Manager (liam.maclure@cmhavf.ca).
