CMHA Vancouver-Fraser Initiates Restructuring to Safeguard Essential Services
Apr 11, 2025
Vancouver, BC – The Board of Directors of the Canadian Mental Health Association Vancouver-Fraser Branch (CMHA VF) has announced the initiation of a formal restructuring process in response to persistent financial challenges. This difficult but necessary step is a proactive effort to secure the future of vital mental health and substance use services.
The restructuring includes the submission of a public Notice of Intention to Make a Proposal — a formal legal process that allows the organization time to reorganize thoughtfully and responsibly. The process will involve significant organizational changes, including the loss of some community-based programs and impacts to staffing.
However, the focus remains clear: where possible, to preserve essential services, minimize disruption to clients, and support affected staff through the transition.
“We did not take this decision lightly,” says Wayne Arondus, Board President of CMHA Vancouver-Fraser. “Our responsibility is to the community, and we are focused on preserving core programs, and ensuring clients and staff receive clear and compassionate communication every step of the way.”
CMHA VF is working closely with CMHA BC Division, funders, and partners to ensure continuity of care and long-term organizational stability. Staff working on key funded programs may continue in their current roles or transition to new roles under CMHA BC’s oversight.
“This is a time of significant transition, but also of deep commitment,” added Mr. Arondus. “We are grateful for the strength of CMHA’s federated model, which allows us to draw on provincial leadership, shared values, and collective expertise as we move forward.”
