Bling-a-Thon for Mental Health 2024
Shine Bright so others can!!
The most wonderful time of the year is the hardest season for mental health. As days grow shorter and the cold creeps in, many Canadians find themselves struggling with their mental health and unable to afford support. That’s why, every December, the Bling-a-Thon brings the sparkle to support mental health programs for those in need.
In December 2019, Pamela Steen embarked on a heartfelt journey to spread joy, lift spirits, and remind herself and others of the importance of self-care by wearing bright, bling-filled outfits for the entire month. What began as a personal goal to bring some brightness into the world grew into a powerful mission to put the spotlight on (or raise awareness for) mental health.
Pam’s glittering attire sparked countless smiles and meaningful conversations, eventually catching the attention of the Canadian Mental Health Association, Vancouver-Fraser who joined forces with her to create the Bling-a-thon. Now, six years later, the Bling-a-thon is a highlight of the Shine Bright Campaign and a reminder of the critical importance of mental health.
This has been a challenging year for Pam. She has faced struggles with her own mental health and have experienced some difficult setbacks along the way. As winter approached, she even doubted whether she had the strength to continue with this campaign. But she realized that now, more than ever, it’s vital to shine bright—not just for herself, but for her community.
